Song Of The Week (March 30th, 2014)

This week’s Song of the Week comes from Paolo Nutini’s last album “Caustic Love” which will be released later next month. Paolo Nutini is a Scottish singer and songwriter that had received several awards and was nominated twice at the BRIT awards for “Best Male Solo Artist “. His debul album “These Streets” peaked to number 3 in UK and was followed by an even more successful album “Sunny Side Up” which peaked to number 1 in the UK and Ireland album charts.
Paolo Nutini – Better Man

Lyrics:

She makes me smile
She thinks the way I think
That girl makes me wanna be better
Took her down Bleecker Street
Saw she drank the way I drink
I kiss the sky to send her blue a letter
That girl
Makes me wanna be a better man
Ye should she see fit
Gonna treat her like a real man can
She’s fearless, she’s free
Oh she is a real live wire
And that girl
She’s got me feeling so much better
Oh you trade all the money in the world
Just to see this girl’s smile
All the while, she’ll make you feel so much better

Oh that girl, makes me wanna be a better man
And should she see fit, gonna treat her like a real man can
Ah, ah, la la la
Come on in my arms
You make me feel alright
You make me feel alright
You know I might get eager
I might lose my cool
Feel like I’m in detention
In the office at the school
And you’ll either love me love me
Or you hate me
But I can see you’ve got no time
For the in-between
But the reflection in your eyes
Gonna look so much better
I said that girl makes me wanna be a better man
Yeah yeah yeah
And should she see she fit, gonna treat her like a real man can

Gonna treat her like a real man can
Gonna treat her like a real man can
Gonna treat her like a real man can

Song Of The Week (March 23th, 2014)

This week’s Song of the Week comes from Yoann Lemoine (also known as Woodkid), a French musician, songwriter and music video director. As a music video director he is known for working with Lana Del Ray, Taylor Swift and Mistery Jets. His debut album “The Golden Age” peaked at number 2 in France and Germany.

Woodkid – I Love You

Lyrics:

Where the light shivers offshore
Through the tides of oceans
We are shining in the rising sun

As we are floating in the blue
I am softly watching you
Oh boy your eyes betray what burns inside you

Whatever I feel for you
You only seem to care about you
Is there any chance you could see me too?
Cause I love you
Is there anything I could do
Just to get some attention from you?
In the waves I’ve lost every trace of you
Where are you?

After all I drifted ashore
Through the streams of oceans
Whispers wasted in the sand

As we were dancing in the blue
I was synchronized with you
But now the sound of love is out of tune

Whatever I feel for you
You only seem to care about you
Is there any chance you could see me too?
Cause I love you
Is there anything I could do
Just to get some attention from you?
In the waves I’ve lost every trace of you
Where are you?

Whatever I feel for you
You only seem to care about you
Is there any chance you could see me too?
Cause I love you
Is there anything I could do
Just to get some attention from you?
In the waves I’ve lost every trace of you
Where are you?”

Song Of The Week (March 16th, 2014)

This week’s chosen song is my favorite song from Tom Odell’s debut album “Long Way Down”.  Tom is one of UK’s emerging artists and had already won the “Critics’ Choice” award at the Brit Awards in 2013. In the following year he had received another two nominations for “British Male Solo Artist” and “British Breakthrough Act”.

Tom Odell – Sense

“Hard to know,
Maybe if I skim the stone,
Walk a different way back home,
It would all make sense.

Oh, shut my eyes,
Lose myself in teenage lies,
If I fell in love a thousand times,
Would it all make sense?

‘Cause I,
I’ve been feeling pretty small,
Sometimes,
Feel like I’m slipping down walls,
And every line,
I ever get a hold,
It seems to break.

Ca-call you up,
I can tell you just how much,
No, no maybe I’ll just get drunk,
And it will all make sense.

Or if I weren’t so nice,
I convince my friends that you were right,
I can promise you my heart don’t cry,
Would it all make sense?

‘Cause I,
I’ve been feeling pretty small,
Sometimes,
Feel like I’m slipping down walls,
And every lie,
I ever get a hold,
It seems to break.

Oh I,
I’ve been feeling pretty small,
Sometimes,
Feel like I’m slipping down walls,
And every lie,
I ever get a hold,
It seems to break.”

Song Of The Week (March 9th, 2014)

Last week’s song is aimed against the military–industrial complex which build weapons, buy off politicians and then convince people to join the wars they start.

Bob Dylan – Masters Of War

Lyrics:

“Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs

You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin’
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it’s your little toy

You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Well like a Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe

But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
And then you sit back and watch
When the death count gets higher

And you hide in your mansion
All the young people’s blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You’ve thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world

Oh for threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain’t worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know?
Oh to talk out of turn
You might say that I’m young
You might say I’m unlearned

But there’s a one thing I know
Though I’m younger than you
That even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Well let me ask you one question
Is your money that good?
Oh will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could?

I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death will come soon
I’ll follow your casket
By the pale afternoon

And I’ll watch while you’re lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I’ll stand over your grave
Till I’m sure that you’re dead”

Song Of The Week (March 2nd, 2014)

The song selected for last week is “Big Jet Plane” by Angus and Julia Stone. The Australian brother and sister duo had released two studio albums so far, one of them wining multiple awards at the  2010 Australian Music Awards (ARIA). In the same year “Big Jet Plane” had won the award for “Single  of the Year”.

Angus & Julia Stone – Big Jet Plane

Lyrics:

“She said, “Hello, Mister, please to meet you”
I wanna hold her, I wanna kiss her
She smelled of daisies, she’s smelled of daisies
She drive me crazy, she drive me crazy

Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
Hey hey, hey hey

Be my lover, my lady river
But can I take you, take you higher?

Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane

Hey hey, hey hey
Hey hey, hey hey

Gonna hold you, gonna kiss you in my arms
Gonna take you away from harm
Gonna hold you, gonna kiss you in my arms
Gonna take you away from harm

Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane

Hey hey, hey hey
Hey hey, hey hey
Hey hey”
